Neutral tones. No matter how far we wander from traditional style, there’s something eternally alluring about neutral colours in interior design. Whether it’s because of their versatility or the fact that there’s few rooms that don’t look stylish in their hues, we’re confident this is a trend that’s here to stay. In line with our goal to inspire your interior design with the right window blinds, we’ve pulled together this neutral window blinds edit – with our tips and tricks to styling your new window coverings easily.
Why go neutral?
Who doesn’t love a neutral? Even if you’re someone who embraces vibrant pops of colour too, there’s a place for balancing hues including whites, creams and greys. Too many times, neutral colours have been given the label of ‘boring’ or ‘unimaginative’. However, we’re convinced that they’re still a vital consideration when it comes to dressing your home. They:
- Classic – A neutral-styled room and window design will rarely go out of fashion. A neutral background can be dressed up or down easily, even as your choice of statement hue changes throughout the years.
- Variety – Many people default to thinking white, grey and cream are the only neutrals on offer. But don’t forget the wide array of hues, variations and options out there. Think stone, shadow and bone – all different neutral shades that can add their own personality into a space.
- Help to accentuate texture – A clean, neutral background easily accentuates the look and appeal of different textures. Think of that fluffy white rug you’ve been eyeing up all year. Or those sand coloured cushions that have a rough texture – perfect for creating a rustic space.
- Don’t overwhelm – If you’ve spent a lot of time and effort creating lines and unique furniture in your room, neutrals allow these to stand out without overwhelming. They both blend into the background and accentuate it at the same time.
- Stress reducing – Colour psychology tells us that non-offensive colours or tones help to manage our stress levels. They create a neutral, balanced space that calms the mind and chills us out instantly.
So there’s no denying that there’s a place in every single home for a good neutral. Now, let’s take a look at our curated edit of neutral window blinds and how we’d style them in our own homes.
Roller Blinds – Splash Taupe
If you’re interested in interior design to any level, there’s no avoiding our current love for grey. This classic neutral can be picked out in various hues, from deep intense graphite through to softer hues. Because of this, it’s not uncommon to see homes entirely drenched in grey from top-to-bottom. However, it can feel cold in some settings and so, one way to deal with this is to opt for a grey-brown tone – such as taupe.
Enter the Splash Taupe Roller Blinds. As with all of our available window dressings, they are made-to-measure using high-quality, light-filtering fabric. The warmer grey hue can be layered against lighter walls or pops of pastel pink. For us, we would hang these blinds in our living room. Pair them with a crisp white sofa, wooden-legged furniture, and large photo frames with snapshots of family life. The warmer grey-brown tone could be further picked up through throws and cushions, as well as in terracotta pots or grey ornaments for shelves.
Vertical Blinds – Caspian Cream
Vertical blinds have, historically, had a reputation for use in offices and corporate environments. But, here at Shop4Blinds, we believe in their versatility through and through. With the power to elongate the visual look of your windows and being suitable for larger windows too, these blinds are perfect for your home. Our chosen style for this neutrals edit is the crisp and adaptable Caspian Cream Vertical Blind.
There’s something powerful about an all-white window. It makes the space look bigger, brightens up darker corners, and adds a crisp, well-kept feel to the room. What makes these blinds so great is their ability to pair with any room style. If it were us, we would go bold on the walls with something like F&B Hague Blue and contrast this off with white and black details throughout the space. There’s something ever so appealing about crisp straight lines and a darker wall that allows you to choose bold soft furnishings like a yellow sofa or rich rose gold accents.
Venetian Blinds – Woodline 9410
Venetian blinds have inherent versatility. Being manufactured from aluminium, they are an ideal choice for kitchens and bathrooms alike. For us here in the UK, bathrooms are notoriously small. And, many kitchens also follow suit unless they have been extended. For these rooms, neutral window blinds work exceptionally well. Our choice for this edit would be the Woodline 9410 Venetial Blinds. With an aesthetical wood design on each slat, they allow you to work with classical and country-chic room designs.
We would hang them in our kitchen and pair with a shaker-style kitchen in a soft dove grey. With this, we’d choose brushed bronze accents through our light hangings and large glass-doored cupboards to create a space right out of the magazines.
Wooden Blinds – Cloud Grey
The final addition to our edit is wooden blinds. With the same design as Venetian blinds, these classic and hardwearing window dressings are deemed one of the most luxurious and durable. They are better placed in rooms with low moisture-content (avoid in kitchens or bathrooms) and are made bespoke. We would opt for real-wood options to give that feeling of true luxury. And, our chosen design for this edit would be the Cloud Grey Wooden Blinds.
We love the idea of pairing these subtle grey blinds with a paint option such as F&B Setting Plaster. This gentle pink has enough warmth to be used in any room and allows you to style gold and other metallic accents along with it.
