10 Interior Design Trends You Need To Know This Autumn Winter

As we prepare for another month in our homes, it’s time to consider how we can craft the perfect haven. Autumn Winter may bring some of the coldest days of the year, but it also brings a unique beauty. Snuggling up in front of the fire to ward away the chill. Warming ice-cold fingers on steaming bowls of soup. Choosing loungewear over high heels. There really isn’t a better time to fall back in love with our homes. Interior design trends are cause for inspiration, helping us to keep on top with the latest favourites.

So, in preparation for a brisk November and crisp December, we’ve brought together 10 of the biggest interior design trends. So all you need to do is sit back and get inspired.

1. Neutrals

Not a month goes by where we don’t fall back in love with classic neutrals. There’s something homely and warming about creams, beige and warm browns. And AW2020 is no exception. With the world up in arms and uncertainty around every corner, these reassuring tones help us to find grounding in the everyday. Styles such as our Splash Dove Roller Blinds or the Heritage Cream Wooden Blinds are both perfect examples of these beloved tones.

Pair them with textured rugs and neutral-patterned scatter cushions. The beauty of neutrals is their ability to be layered with many other colours while still looking styled. Pops of colour throughout bring personality to a space but be gentle – pastel pinks or corals are the ideal choices.

2. Grey

It’s true what they say – grey never goes out of fashion. Whether we’re drawn towards off-white variations or something deeper such as slate, this modern neutral always has a place in our home. In Autumn Winter 2020, it begins to take the place of classic creams. When paired with statement walls in royal blues or emerald, grey warms up a space while maintaining that feeling of luxury.

Our Splash Canvas Roller Blinds or the Banlight Duo FR Silver Vertical Blinds both blend themselves into this setting perfectly. Made-to-measure to suit any window and versatile enough to fit in every space, you’ll find it easy to bring your favourite grey into any design.

3. Earthy Tones

As we mentioned above, winter is a time for being as cosy as possible. And, nothing says cosy quite like spice. Think warming mulled wine or homely chilli bubbling on the stove. This drive for warmth is something that transcends into our homes in AW2020. Earthy hues, including Dulux’s Colour of The Year 2021 also allow us to feel safe within our homes. Think vintage tones paired with fiery reds and earthy browns.

Lean towards the Vitra Roast Roller Blinds or the Splash Havana Roller Blind. Pair these with greys and sharper neutrals, along with wooden furniture and unique accessories for a space to be admired.

4. Soft Wood

People generally fall into two categories – dark or light wood lovers. For Autumn Winter, we’re all about soft wooden hues – think cane or light oak. The lighter colours help to make the smallest spaces look expensive. Finish with a whitewash or sand to create a distressed look. Interior designers are finding ways to mix together the old and the new while breathing fresh life into these designs.

For your windows, opt for Beech Real Wood Blinds or the Tuscan Oak Wooden Blinds to bring these trends into all areas of the room.

5. Vintage Patterns

In our continued strive towards stability, we have reverted back to a love of vintage patterns. And, we’re talking about the type of wallpapers and fabrics that your grandmother would have used. Think deeply pigmented hues, detailed flowers and layering. The rule book is thrown out here – simple opt for classic furniture and cover in velvets, highly detailed scatter cushions and full-length window dressings.

6. Natural Materials

Sustainability is the buzzword at the moment and, in as many aspects as possible, we’re looking for ways to become more conscious of our surroundings. Natural materials are making a come back within interior design. Whether this means leaning back towards rattan accessories or choosing unfinished woods for our coffee tables, the appeal is growing. Not only does this allow us to celebrate the contemporary but it also provides a retro feel.

This is where real wood window blinds come into their element. Choose the hue that appeals to you the most. Whether that’s Fired Walnut or Warm Oak, it’s easy to embrace these natural tones within any room.

7. Intricate Florals

Our love for florals isn’t dying out soon. Instead, we’ve moved to a somewhat more mature and definitely busier obsession with smaller florals. Intricate details that allow petals, stamen and foliage to blur into one captivating pattern. When used as a statement wallpaper, these designs promise to capture the eye. Alternatively, picked out in smaller accessories, they blend in beautifully with their surroundings while adding a unique edge.

Think of our Flourish Sand or Meadow Flower Redcurrent Roller Blinds. This trend is versatile enough to suit kitchens, bedrooms and living rooms alike – any space where a dash of colour is essential.

8. Foliage Hues

The leaves may fall and turn a crisp yellow during these brisk months but our love for eternal greens never dies out. This winter, bring these tones into your home, pairing soft greens with vintage woods for a truly decadent space. This colour pallet works beautifully in bedrooms, where your bed covers can be used to tell a woodland-themed story. Or in living rooms to maintain a cosy warmth throughout those colder evenings.

Consider the Banlight Duo FR Green Roller Blinds or the Banlight Duo FR Green Vertical Blinds – both of which are finished in the perfect earthy green.

9. Dried Flowers

Another nod towards sustainability, we are obsessed with dried flowers. If you’re an avid Instagrammer, you’ve likely seen the recent trend of pampas grass. This has evolved in Autumn Winter 2020 to include fully dried bouquets and preserved, biodegradable flowers that maintain their sweet scent. Slip into tall vases and pop around the home to create intrigue in every space.

10. Panelling

And finally, no AW2020 trend list would be complete without everyone’s latest penchant – panelling. Originally found in stately homes and regal abodes, now everyone is trying their hand at DIY panelling. Choose contrasting colours and don’t be afraid to go bold – panels were designed to be paired with the most opulent velvets and jewel colours.
Autumn Winter 2020 may not be exactly how we all planned it, but making the most out of our time at home is vital.
